OPEN GROUP CLASSES

No booking required - just turn up!

There is no need to bring a dance partner and you can come along with as many friends as you like. We rotate partners (unless you want to stay with your partner) so that you'll learn quicker and more effortlessly - the bonus is that you'll get to know others in the group really easily this way.

We have a separate class for beginners at all our open group classes so beginners will be amongst others who are also new to dancing salsa. We tend to concentrate on a few easy moves to start with, so even if you've never done any form of dance before in your life, you'll be able to dance a few basic salsa steps by the end of your first night with us. We have other levels of tuition taking place on the same night so that you can progress smoothly and never feel out of your depth.

As with almost anything, some people progress faster than others. However, most people aren't 'natural dancers'; they are usually people whose dancing ability is as a result of lots of practice. When I first started learning salsa, I was an IT professional - I now run salsa full time. I know we have accountants, solicitors, students, government employees, plumbers, carpenters, teachers, postmen, postwomen, scientists, window cleaners... you name it, they're probably at salsa! Salsa transcends all backgrounds. It's more important that everyone progresses at their own speed - choosing the level they feel comfortable with and only moving on to the next level when ready to do so. Our teachers are on hand to help and guide you if you're not certain which class you should be in. We also have informative literature to make your salsa experience more rewarding.

The dress code is informal. There is no need for any special clothing or footwear, just come along in something that you will feel comfortable dancing in which gives freedom of movement and won't make you too hot. Ideally your shoes should allow you to turn around easily on the floor so shoes with smooth soles of leather or plastic tend to be best. Rubber-soled shoes like trainers tend to grip the floor too much so aren't good; but it's not critical in the early stages.

Not sure about starting Open Group Classes? - Come and watch first.

You probably have lots of questions and if that's the case either contact us by email or phone. Alternatively, you can simply come along to watch an open group class before taking part. That way there's no pressure on you to get started, nor any need to delay, for example if you're waiting on a friend to make themselves available to come along with you - we have plenty of people just watching the classes on their own to see what they're all about - and I think you'll be surprised at how different JUSTDANCE classes are to what you probably think a dance class is like! Simply turn up at any class, with friends or on your own, and watch. We're always on hand to answer your questions. You can also talk to others about their salsa experiences and how they got started. Then, if and when you're ready, you can get started yourself! Most people, including myself, start salsa in exactly this way.
